New release: Lyon Text by Kai Bernau

Lyon Text is the text face of the New York Times Magazine.

Commercial Type have released their first new design not designed within the company, with Lyon. This 5 weight serif text face has been designed by Kai Bernau, a German designer working in the Hague. Bernau graduated from the world famous type course at the KABK in 2007, and is a partner with Susana Carvalho in Atelier Carvalho Bernau. Lyon is a modern interpretation of the classic Renaissance typefaces, and in particular the work of Robert Granjon. The family has recently been adopted by the New York Times for its magazines and Mark Porter's redesign of Internazionale, a newsweekly based in Rome. Please click here for more info.

The McClatchy Company publishes 29 daily newspapers across the US. Working with Garcia Media, they have spent the last year developing a unified design language that will bring together the print papers, mobile apps, and web editions with a more consistent overall look. We designed a set of typefaces that will help to bridge the gap between design consistency and individual character.
